As a single mother of two I feel that it is very important to give more than you receive.  I believe very strongly in Karma.  I don't have much but what I do have I hope someone else can benefit from.  I have a 9 year old that attends Riverview Elementary and I feel that as a parent and an employee of the district it's important to support the programs that people lean on the most.  When I first started here I heard about a program through DFEE that would help parents in need with school supplies for their children.  I thought that would be really great to help out with those types of things.  All I have is $5.00 a month to give but over the course of the year that's enough money to help buy two kids school supplies.  If everyone gave $5.00 a month the possibilities would be endless.

As an employee of the Durango School District 9-R, I work at the Robert E. DeNier Youth Services Center as a math and science teacher. I started donating to DFEE last year. I believe that DFEE truly supports the mission of 9-R and its commitment to excellence. What inspires me to contribute monthly is the future dream of DFEE having a large enough endowment that would enable this educational foundation to be self-sustaining for years to come. I feel that my donation is a demonstration of my commitment to supporting that dream.

Although there are great student opportunitites in our District 9-R School System, the needs of all students can't be met by the District alone.  That's where DFEE comes into play.  DFEE supports alternative and innovative programs in Durango so that we can help all students be successful.  Currently, as a social studies teacher and as a future Durango Big Picture High School Planner and Advisor, I support DFEE and the important role this organization plays in educating our youth.  Thus, it is easy for me to monetarily support DFEE each month through our District 9-R Payroll Deduction Plan.

Says the reason he chooses to give to DFEE is because we ask a lot from our schools and our educators.  With the ever-increasing roles that they are asked to take on in preparing and raising our youth for adulthood, we don’t always provide them with the necessary resources to do that job.

Just because we, as community members, don’t have a direct role in the schools doesn’t mean we aren’t responsible for ensuring that the educational process is as good as it can be.

DFEE has been an education partner with District 9-R since 1985.  Many of the programs and projects that they have helped to fund fall outside the scope of the district budget.  This means that these programs would otherwise be unavailable to our local students without the aide of DFEE.  Some of the programs and projects include reading and literacy incentives, anti-bullying programs, climbing walls, math projects, science camps, and citizenship programs.  Each contribution in supporting this fund, no matter how small, helps to provide innovative and enriching educational programs for our students.

As the economy goes from bad to worse, it is characteristic for people to hold on a little tighter to their purse strings to create a space of financial comfort for themselves and their families. This is understandable, but makes bad economic times even harder for organizations like DFEE. I give to DFEE for the same reason that most other contributors do; I recognize that they support the teachers and students of this district in a way that may not be possible due to funding limitations. Thank you for all you do, DFEE.
