A Case For Giving
Education Foundations ARE the Trend
According to the National School Foundation Association, schools in America are faced with increasing demands and diminished resources. Support from public sources is not likely to be sufficient to provide the resources necessary to meet rising educational needs. Increasingly, school districts across the nation are turning to education foundations.
Education foundations are “popping up” all over the country. Shrinking tax revenues, budget cuts, a shift of state and national funds to the poorest school districts are fueling the needs for school foundations. The needs in our own Durango School District 9-R reflect this national trend.
There are currently over 4,800 K-12 school foundations nationwide and school districts are providing higher quality education and are better able to stay ahead of the curve and producing higher test results in academic achievement as a result of foundation support.
Specifically, DFEE has recently supported the Durango School District 9-R by funding programs in the areas of Character Development, Foreign Language, Math Achievement, Social Emotional Learning (which supports interpersonal skills), Technology, Science and Engineering.
The national trend clearly indicates that education foundations are necessary and can have an overwhelming positive influence on a school district’s ability to offer excellence in public education.
